Bosch IOT Garage: Building bridges between talent and industry

Homes are becoming smarter, factories more productive, and mobility is taking on a fundamentally new form. The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming how we work, live and function. At the heart of this technology lie several challenges which businesses need to overcome for implementing any successful project.

‘Quality talent’ is amongst the most troubling issues for IoT players worldwide.

For almost half of the IoT adopters in the industry, implementation is a challenge due to lack of trained professionals. As per a report by Microsoft, 47% of companies that have adopted IoT, report not having enough skilled workers, and 44% don’t have enough available resources to train employees.

Launch of RBEI IOT Garage

To act as a bridge between talent and the industry, we at Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (RBEI) launched India’s first internet of things (IoT) garage. The goal is to provide engineers a hands-on experience in the fast evolving IOT ecosystem while developing scalable prototypes which can solve real-world problems.

Speed is the essence in Digital Transformation and any process to be transformed using IoT needs to be validated. The garage will focus on building technology demonstrators and validating them before they take shape into solutions for smart connected products.

Bosch has also partnered with NASSCOM and is reaching out to universities for creating IoT evangelists from the very beginning.

Bosch Expertise

Our plan is to dump the cookie-cutter approach and instead adopt a customized approach for each product. Our ability to stitch through solutions across sensor, software and services remains a fundamental capability to be successful in this ecosystem. Stemming from our “Invented for life” ethos, we are constantly developing new ways of applying connectivity to make various aspects of life easier.

Full Stack IoT Competency

Full Stack IoT Competency

IoT being confluence of IT and OT, a typical IoT application stack comprises of devices / sensors, gateways, connectivity to Cloud, Cloud APIs, IoT platforms, Cloud applications layers and analytics layers on top. For any organization to adopt IoT or to help an organization in adopting IoT, the implementation team needs to have Full Stack IoT Competency. This calls for a place to explore, experiment and experience various use cases in the context of IoT and also keep abreast of latest developments in sensors, software and services.

IoT Garage will enable businesses and technical teams to come together and experiment business use cases and validate technical feasibility by leveraging Full Stack IoT capabilities. It will also aid businesses in assessing business viability with the help of technical demonstrator.

Partnerships with technology providers will propel exploring new cloud Services and IoT platforms to enable rapid delivery of IoT technical demonstrator for business use cases.

Conclusion

As IoT evolves, so will business models. Successful implementation of IoT will open up the realms to several revenue streams and can help industries become more efficient, customer centric and experience focused. IoT Garage is the one stop solution to help business teams quickly validate industry use cases with technical demonstrators, address competency development and boost IoT evangelization. By bringing together different stakeholders from the industry including organizations, employees, IoT experts and customers, we are creating a platform to address IoT implementation challenges and empower businesses to go beyond the basic checklist of digital transformation.
